Cache hits are free

When a bot asks for a page that is already rendered and fresh, it gets the cached HTML. That is a cache hit, and hits are never billed. Your plan counts fresh renders only.

What counts as a fresh render

Cache miss
A bot asks for a page that is not in the cache yet.
Stale refresh
A cached page is older than your freshness setting (24 hours by default). The bot gets the cached copy right away and the page is rendered again.
Recache
You ask for pages to be rendered again, from the dashboard or the API.
Warm
You warm the cache from your sitemap.

Questions

What happens when I reach my plan limit?

Cached pages keep being served. Pages that are not cached go to bots as your original page, without JavaScript, and are not billed. You get an email at 80 % of your renders and when you reach the limit.

What does overage cost?

Paid plans can turn on overage: $5 per 1,000 extra pages past the plan limit. It is off until you turn it on. The free trial has no overage.

When does usage reset?

On the 1st of every month (UTC).

Do people visiting my site see anything different?

No. Only bots get the pre-rendered HTML, and it is the same content people see.

What if the service is slow or down?

Bots get your original page, so your site is never worse off than without prerendering.

Can I switch from another prerender service?

Yes. Keep your prerender middleware and change the service URL and token. Read the switch guide.

Switching takes five minutes.

Keep your prerender middleware. Change the service URL and token. Done.
